Mosaic cloaking - Traditional cloaking v/s Advanced cloaking
In Search Engine Marketing, webmasters are usually involved in black hat or grey hat search engine optimization techniques. Here comes the reference of cloaking which is an old and often practiced black hat SEO technique. Through cloaking server side scripting, websites can differentiate between Search Engine Spider and normal internet user. And after this differentiation, deliver different kinds of content to both. The main purpose of cloaking lies in misleading search engines in their results. The practice of cloaking to increase the ranking of any particular website may be a threat to their survival. At first, it may hamper its search engine rankings. And its repeated practice may penalize or even remove it from search engine index. While talking about cloaking, Matt Cutts, Google's anti-spam engineer held that:
- Google doesn't like cloaking. It doesn't matter who is using cloaking technique.
- If Google caught cloaking on any website; Website will penalize and remove from Google index.
- Google Bot can detect all kind of cloaking on website.
"Mosaic cloaking": New scheme of cloaking
Although Traditional cloaking provides completely different content to Search engine and normal internet user; Mosaic cloaking works only as a part of WebPages. Here is an example: Whenever Search Engine Spider sends a request for a page of my website, I replace all "full stops (.)" with keyword rich content through server side scripting, and other pages of my website remain unchanged. From this technique, search engine indexes a content rich webpage and gives advantage to it. Through this method, I can get some short term results until search engine caught me as black hat spammer.
Personally, I don't recommend any kind of cloaking technique for optimizing webpage. Google has clarified the truth that cloaking can ban or even remove a site from search engine index. So I personally prefer to use ethical SEO Techniques for better and long term results.
